Assignment 4: Principles guiding teaching
In the past we worked with different sets of guiding principles:
Effective language lessons (ADI1Z)
Effective language tasks (ADI1Z)
Lesson planning (ADI1Z, ADI2Z))
Principles of instructed language learning (ADI2Z)
We have also explored effective classroom practice in the following areas of:
1. Planning – evidence of effective lesson planning and preparation
2. Instructing – effective language and lesson objective scaffolding
3. Learning
4. Interpersonal dynamics – supportive environment that engages all learners
5. The teacher and learners – performance in class
(See your notes from both teaching practices for these.)
Review Principles of instructed language learning (see below) in parallel with Explicit instruction and SLA (your notes and posters) and the above mentioned materials and develop a set of guidelines for teachers - for yourself - based on what you know how
learning happens and what teachers - you need to do with learners for learning to happen. Your set should have at least 30 guiding principles/"I should tips". The purpose of the assignment is to help you synthesize all the content explored so far and support your own teaching.
