Once the project objectives and main activities have been identified, the next step is to organise the work into coherent blocks.

These blocks are called Work Packages (WPs). A Work Package groups together a set of related activities that contribute to a common part of the project.

Grouping activities in WPs makes project management and monitoring easier

A well-structured Work Package should have:

  • a clear purpose linked to one or more project objectives;
  • a set of related activities;
  • one or more concrete deliverables;
  • clearly defined responsibilities;
  • appropriate resources and, where relevant, a timeframe.

Think of WPs as the building blocks of your project: each one covers a coherent area of work and contributes to the overall project objectives.
