Course objectives and outcomes

The main objective of these selected online materials is to help students master academic skills necessary to pass EAP5. 
Academic English 5 course is designed for students who are preparing to study in English at university level. Students will systematically practise and develop key language and academic skills, which are important for studying in English. 
The system of continuous evaluation means that the student must complete all individually assessed parts. The total sum of points obtained in these individual sections must be at least 70 points from the total of 100 points.
Writing an academic essay is a part of the course and contributes 30% to the overall evaluation. This genre has its own fixed rules, which differ from the traditional essay form that students may have learned about in high school. The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the process of writing an academic essay, to advise on how to avoid stylistic errors in a foreign language. Students will receive individual feedback on their essays throughhout the course.
The course is focused on all language competencies (listening, speaking, reading, writing). Students continuously expand their vocabulary by reading, doing lexical exercises using various audio and video resources. Presentation skills are developed shaping the ability to lead a discussion and present a scientific stance.
