6.1. Occurrence of the syndrome

proportion of causal factors: the ratio has changed significantly over the last 40 years

  • 50-70% inheritance
  • 20-30% complications during pregnancy and childbirth
  • 10% later effects

incidence in the population - MBD: 6−15%, more common in boys

  • the percentage of occurrence varies according to the diagnostic system, gender and age
    • DSM-5: 4–19% of children with ADHD
    • ICD-10: 1-3% incidence of hyperkinetic disorder

more abundant in boys

  •  different prevalence according to individual types in ADHD:

  1. Type of attention deficit disorder occurs in 25-30% of cases;
  2. Hyperactively impulsive type is diagnosed in about 10-20% of cases;
  3. The mixed type is the most frequent - it occurs in about 50% of children with ADHD.

  •   80% of disorders persist into adolescence and up to 60% into adulthood
