To what extent are you satisfied with the quality and the length of service life of current products? The older generation that remembers products which were available some 30 years ago sometimes say that, for example, their first, old washing machine lasted for twenty years before they had to buy a new one, while they have technical problems with this new one after just two years of operation. How this is possible? Answer at least two of the following questions and respond to at least one contribution of a fellow student.
- What is the average service life of a technological product nowadays? Do current products last as long as similar products before?
- Why don´t some of the current products seem to last as long as their older types?
- Why do companies sometimes have to recall their products?
- What kind of products are more likely to be recalled than others?
- Have you experienced a recall of a faulty/dangerous product in your life? If so, try to be more specific: what was it and did you get a repair, a replacement or your money back?
