Course content and learning pathway
Course content
This course introduces the concepts of self-reflection and critical thinking and their importance in our current age of unprecedented global connectivity and an overwhelming influx of information. The ability to think critically stands as an indispensable skill within university classrooms, assessments, and the broader landscape of the modern world.
“Critical thinking serves as a navigational compass, guiding individuals through the complexities of globalisation, the deluge of data spawned by the information revolution of artificial intelligence, and the multifaceted challenges of modernity. Additionally, technology permeates every aspect of our lives, therefore, the capacity to analyse, evaluate and synthesise information has become not just advantageous, but essential for informed decision-making and meaningful engagement within chosen career pathways.” (University of Bolton, 2024)
Participants learn to analyse and interpret information, and reflect on their positionality and responsibilities. The course strengthens critical awareness, responsible interaction and inclusive engagement skills relevant to community-based initiatives and collaborative dialogue.
Learning pathway
The Moodle campus is structured in four sections - this brief Introduction, a section on Self-Reflection, a section on Critical Thinking, and a Conclusion—to guide participants through a clear and consistent learning journey. After reviewing the introductory materials (welcome message, course description, and syllabus), you should follow the Learning Pathway by progressing sequentially through the two content sections, each of which includes an overview, a content input part, an interactive part, a short conclusion, and a section with extra materials, should you want to dive deeper into the topics. All core content and activities within these sections are compulsory and must be completed in the given order to ensure understanding and progression, while any “extra materials” are clearly marked as optional and not required for course completion. Intermediate results, such as quiz scores or activity feedback, are available within each section, allowing you to track your progress continuously. Upon completing all required sections and activities, you can access their final results in the course summary area and download your certificate from the final “Conclusion” section, where guidance on certification and further learning opportunities is also provided.
Workload
Completing this course will take around 3 hours. There are optional materials for those who want to explore this topic in more detail.
