The course is organised as a progressive learning journey that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application.

You will begin by exploring the concept of mediation within the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and understand how it differs from translation, interpretation, and everyday communication.

Next, you will examine the role of mediation in multilingual, intercultural, and community-based contexts, discovering how it promotes inclusive dialogue, collaboration, and participation.

The course then introduces key mediation strategies, including summarising, paraphrasing, simplifying, reformulating, and negotiating meaning, which will be applied to authentic communication scenarios.

Finally, you will reflect on your own communication practices through guided activities and self-assessment, identifying strengths and areas for further development while recognising mediation as a valuable competence for academic, professional, and community engagement.
