Topic 1 - VIDEO STORY: Diversity from a broad point of view.
Section outline
-
How often do we assume similarity, without looking beyond the surface?
And to what extent might important differences remain unseen at first sight? When we think about diversity, we often notice the most visible differences first. However, many of the factors that shape people's experiences, opportunities, ways of learning, communicating, and participating are not immediately apparent. Assumptions based on first impressions can lead us to overlook important aspects of how people engage with the world around them.
This video invites you to take a closer look. Through a series of everyday situations, you will be encouraged to pause, observe, and reflect on what might not be visible at first sight. As details are gradually revealed, you may discover that what initially seems simple or uniform is often more complex and diverse than it appears.
As you watch, try to keep an open mind and consider the questions that appear on screen. In this section, you are invited to explore these questions through a short video and a series of guided reflections. As you move through the scenes, you may begin to notice how different elements can shape people’s experiences in subtle but meaningful ways.
The section combines visual storytelling with short reflective prompts designed to encourage you to pause, observe more closely and reconsider initial impressions. Rather than providing direct answers, it aims to support you in developing your own understanding of what diversity and inclusion can mean in practice.
There is a compulsory activity that you have to complete after the video.
At the end of the section, you will also find a set of optional resources. We encourage you to explore them if you would like to deepen your understanding and continue reflecting on the ideas introduced here. You are expected to dedicate approximately 30 minutes to this section.
You may wish to take your time, allowing space to reflect on how these ideas connect with your own experience and context.
