Topic 2 - SELF-TEST: Recognising bias and prejudices.
Section outline
-
How do we usually interpret what we see in everyday situations?
How quickly do we form assumptions about others, often without realising it?
And how might these interpretations shape the way we communicate and relate to others? In this section, you are invited to reflect on these questions through a series of familiar situations and guided responses. As you move through the scenarios, you may begin to notice how easily we “fill in the gaps” and how these interpretations can influence our actions and interactions.
The section combines a short introduction with interactive elements, to explore key aspects of communication and a set of everyday scenarios presented through a self-test format. Each situation offers you different possible interpretations, followed by immediate feedback designed to prompt reflection rather than provide right or wrong answers.
The aim is to help you become more aware of how small shifts in perspective can contribute to more inclusive ways of communicating.
At the end of the section, instead of additional materials, you will find a hotspot that will guide you to a short reflective text. We encourage you to read it carefully and to mark it as completed, as it forms an important part of the learning process in this module. You are expected to dedicate approximately 30 minutes to this section.
You may wish to take your time, allowing space to reflect on how these ideas connect with your own experience and context.
