Hello Mrs Petrlíková,

I have two questions I would need your help with:

1. topic Structure of a sentence - you write about possible means of realization of individual clause elements. Among others, subject can be realized by a) a dependent finite clause (nominal content or relative) and b) a dependent non-finite clause:infinitive, gerundial construction. I would need examples to these: is it right to say We do what we are told to do. to a) and It was wise to want that from him. to b)?

Subject complement is realized by noun phrase, adjectival phrase, prepositional phrase, pronoun, dependent finite clause:nominal content or relative and dependent non-finite clause. Could you give me an example to each of these?

Object complement is realized by noun phrase, adjectival phrase, prepositional phrase and dependent non-finite clause:present or past participle construction. I would need your help on the examples here also.

In the same chapter - Sentence types by the number of finite clauses:

There is a compound sentence (ex) I know what you mean. Before you leave the home remember to switch off the heating.  - but these examples are complex sentences.

2. topic Non-finite verb phrases: Could you clarify the term matrix clause? Is it a complex or a compound clause?

By the task where we are to determine the categories of the underlined VPs there is no solution. Can we say that John has been studying law for theree years. is progressive and Alice wants to spend her holiday at the seaside. perfective?

Thank you for your help in advance.
