1. Active part in the classes, which includes having studied the individual lectures and being prepared for the following discussion about individual topics;
2. Seminar paper - the syntactic analysis of an original English text of 250 - 300 words (taken from fiction, newspapers...)

Passing the test focusing on the theory as well on application of theoretical knowledge of the syntax of an English sentence (the acceptable score: 75 % of the total number of points)

The goals of the course are:
- to enable students to look upon the English language from the point of view of its historical development;
- to provide general characteristics of relevant changes in the individual linguistic areas, mainly in phonology, grammar and vocabulary (internal history of English), with reference to the changes in the social, economic and cultural development of the society which either directly or indirectly influenced the development of its language (external history of English);
- to draw students’ attention to the changes of the language caused by the influence of other foreign languages (Greek, Latin, French, Scandinavian) on phonology, grammar and vocabulary;
- to outline the typical features of individual stages in the development of the language, i. e. Old English, Middle English, Early Modern English and Present Day English.
At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- reproduce information about the form of the language in the individual stages of its development;
- describe the consequences of the influence of foreign languages upon English in a particular period of its development;
- comprehend certain regularities in the development of English, the contemporary status of English including some tendencies in its further development by applying the two-fold viewpoint: linguistic and social-historical.

The course is offered to foreign students. The course is taught in English only. The goal of this course is to enable the students to orientate in the basic terminology, concepts and theory of cultural anthropology; to familiarize them with the work of the most important anthropologists; to present them the key anthropological publications and to show examples of anthropological research of various kinds of societies. In the framework of this course, the anthropological theory of culture and the related terminology will be explained. In conclusion to the theories of culture and society, other fields of study of classical anthropology, like kinship, economic, political, and religious systems as well as the relationship between language and culture will be explained. Apart from classical themes and approaches, the possibilities of study of the modern complex societies will be presented. Particular ethnographical and historical examples, related publications and important researchers will be presented for each of the topics.

Předmět je vyučován v angličtině. Jeho cílem je rozbor vlivu práva EU na právní systém a právní praxi členského státu. Kurz je koncipován jako multidisciplinární, zahrnuje různá odvětví současné české právní praxe. Systém výuky studentům přibližuje systém právních norem EU a jejich aplikaci v rámci českého právního systému. Kurz předpokládá již znalost práva EU a práva členského státu, zejména pak procesních pravidel. Výuka je orientovaná prakticky, materiály ke studiu dostanou studenti předem, na semináři budou případy přímo řešeny. Počítá se s účastí studentů programu Erasmus a s porovnáním různých právních přístupů k řešení probíraných otázek.
The course is taught in English. Its aim is to analyse the impact of EU law on the legal system and legal practice of a Member State. The course is designed as a multidisciplinary course, covering various branches of contemporary Czech legal practice. The teaching system introduces students to the system of EU legal norms and their application within the Czech legal system. The course presupposes knowledge of EU law and the law of a Member State, in particular procedural rules. The teaching is practically oriented, students will receive study materials in advance, and cases will be directly solved during the seminar. The participation of Erasmus students and the comparison of different legal approaches to the issues discussed are foreseen.

Předmět je vyučován v angličtině. Jeho cílem je komplexní seznámení s teoretickými východisky evropského práva, jeho vývojem, instituty a konkrétní podobou v České republice. Obsahem výuky jsou instituce EU, jejich postavení a kompetence, jejich vztah k vnitrostátním orgánům a jejich funkční provázanost. Po obecném vymezení nosných institutů se výklad zaměřuje na stěžejní rysy a principy práva EU, které z velké většiny vyplývají z judikaturní činnosti SDEU. Pojetí a význam jednotlivých kategorií základních práv občana členského státu a občana EU, jakož i související vztahy veřejné moci a jednotlivce i nadstátních aspektů práva EU. Procesní možnosti ochrany fyzických a právnických osob u soudních orgánů EU. Výklad by měl studentům umožnit pochopit pozici práva EU jako svébytného právního odvětví, které však tvoří integrální součást všech právních řádů členských zemí EU. Počítá se s účastí studentů programu Erasmus a s porovnáním různých právních přístupů k řešení probíraných otázek.

The course is taught in English. The aim of the course is to provide a comprehensive introduction to the theoretical background of European law, its development, its institutions and its concrete form in the Czech Republic. The content of the course is the EU institutions, their status and competences, their relationship to national institutions and their functional interdependence. After a general definition of the supporting institutes, the interpretation focuses on the key features and principles of EU law, which are largely derived from the case law of the CJEU. The concept and meaning of the various categories of fundamental rights of a citizen of a Member State and a citizen of the EU, as well as the related relations between public authorities and the individual and the supranational aspects of EU law. The procedural possibilities for the protection of natural and legal persons before the EU judicial authorities. The interpretation should enable students to understand the position of EU law as a distinct branch of law, but one which forms an integral part of all EU Member States' legal orders. The participation of Erasmus students is envisaged, as well as the comparison of different legal approaches to the issues discussed.

The course is taught in English. Its aim is to build on the first part of the course and to explain primarily the so-called substantive EU law. Emphasis is placed on free movement, competition law, consumer and human rights protection, common foreign and security policy, judicial cooperation and the EU's external relations. The participation of foreign Erasmus students and a comparison of different legal approaches to solving the issues discussed are expected.

Kurz zahrnuje komparativní přístup k ochraně menšin z pohledu mezinárodního práva a z pohledu práva České republiky. The course aims to understand the notion and concept of protection of ethnic, national, racial, linguistic, religious, sexual, and other minorities, as well as the history of the development of protection of minorities. The course includes a comparative approach to minority protection from the perspective of international law and the perspective of Czech law. Analysis of relevant case law, analysis of the concepts of non-discrimination in law and the concept of equality and their meaning.

Students shall gain the knowledge on elementary judicial cooperation in EU with special focus given on practical aspects of these institutes in legal practice. The course is prepared and offered as additional course to the compulsory basic courses of European law taught either in Czech or in English. Content of the course shall be composed of classes focused on Regulations Brussels I bis, Brussels II bis, Rome I and II as well as Regulations on cooperation in the taking of evidence, on the service of documents . Procedural remedies such as small claims procedure and European payment order shall also form an integral part of the course.
